Great, Great, Great Grandfather was Orrin Porter Rockwell

The US Marshall  For The Utah Territory.

His Claim to fame was keeping the Mormons from being killed

by US Troops.

Two times in history of the USA, has the Government made a Treaty

with its own people, first was the Indians-Native Americans, the second

was the Mormons. In the case of the Mormons Orrin Porter Rockwell

was credited with the second treaty. He formed Militias to stop the

Federal Troops from killing all the People in his territory.

His deputized Militias, would steal the horse at night from the troops and

leave them in the Desert. As a result a treaty with the USA was signed.

Orrin Porter Rockwell was a second Cousin to Joseph Smith and a good

friend to Brigham Young.

Orrin Porter Rockwell was accused of killing Governor Boggs of Missouri,

Orrin Porter Rockwell was held 14 months in the Independence, Missouri

jail, until he was acquitted of the charges. The Independence Jail

is now on the National Register for Preservation.
