“A truthful witness gives honest testimony, but a false witness tells lies. His malice may be concealed by deception, but his wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.” (Proverbs 12:17 and 26:26)

Firestorm over McCain “cone of silence” during limo ride raises more questions

by Tom Flocco

Lake Forest, California—August 18, 2008—TomFlocco.com—The U.S. press corps has not questioned Senator John McCain, members of his Secret Service detail, staffers in his motorcade limo and on-site in his “cone of silence” church room, and members of Saddleback Church’s leadership and staff to corroborate CNN’s Rick Sanchez who broke a story on Saturday and MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell who expanded it Sunday on NBC’s Meet the Press, reporting that the Arizona senator was in a motorcade limo with his Secret Service detail for 31 minutes while Senator Barack Obama was being questioned—not at Saddleback—before arriving late to the church for a presidential religious forum.

Saddleback’s Pastor Rick Warren told CNN’s world-wide audience at the outset of the Saturday evening broadcast that McCain was backstage and sequestered in an isolated room, unable to hear his questions and Senator Barack Obama’s answers when in fact Warren said Sunday that McCain arrived late, but that he “trusted the integrity of John McCain and Barack Obama” regarding whether McCain listened to the broadcast in the limo or consulted with aides who had cell-phones, laptops and blackberries before, during and after McCain arrived at the church’s sequestered room.

Obama staffers are reportedly privately concerned that McCain was not in a “cone of silence” during the entire broadcast and had prior access to questions and answers before personally joining Warren onstage but reports indicate that the campaign does not intend to pursue the matter, leaving it to the press corps which has thus far failed to ask the important questions to the individuals closest to the evidence—all of which would help settle the matter.

Warren asked American citizens to trust the integrity and honesty of his “good friend” McCain, who carried on a lengthy extramarital relationship with Cindy Hensley from 1979 until divorcing his first wife Carol in April, 1980 before marrying Hensley in May, 1980 and signing her prenuptial agreement allowing Mrs. McCain to file separate taxes for 27 years, effectively helping the senator avoid continued public financial scrutiny regarding their reported and alleged $100+ million fortune, 10 homes, corporate jets, off-shore tax-friendly investments and Iraq War military procurement contract profits involving Hensley & Co. (Hensley Beer), Mrs. McCain’s large InBev-Anheuser-Busch beer distribution firm.

Reports by federal agents and the media indicate that In Bev-Anheuser-Busch is one of a number of companies under a widespread federal investigation over the last few months involving allegations of bid-rigging, bribery, and kickbacks by members of the military and civilians connected to the Pentagon purchasing system involving Iraq War profiteering via such products as non-alcoholic beer and bottled water in war zones, all of which Rev. Warren may not have been aware—but are closely related to issues of integrity, character, honesty and possible indirect and ongoing Hensley Beer war profiteering.

Warren told CNN’s Larry King on Monday evening that he and his staff “flipped a coin about a month in advance” without staffers from either campaign present to decide whether Obama or McCain would go first, after which the second candidate would receive identical questions from Warren.

Whether McCain would dishonestly acquire Obama’s questions and responses in advance, or cheat on his first wife Carol while later calling his second wife Cindy McCain the “c-word” in public according to two witnesses, apparently was not an issue with Rev. Warren who later adjusted his initial statement, saying McCain was actually “in a cone of ‘Secret Service’ silence.”

Members of Warren’s staff and church leadership did not inform the Pastor during the broadcast that McCain was not in the building when Warren told Americans that he was sequestered backstage at 8:00 pm EST at the start of the broadcast.

The failure of the media to fully pursue the McCain honesty issue in light of prior patterns is important because McCain must depend on evangelical voters like those at Saddleback Church in Orange County, California to help him win over Obama on November 4.

It was important—if not critical—for McCain to have an outstanding showing in front of so many Religious Right voters who watched but who have serious doubts as to whether he should be the GOP nominee due to his support for questionable wars, illegal immigration amnesty, shipping U.S. jobs overseas and the total failure and unpopularity of the Bush administration on numerous fronts.

Either McCain was in a limo with aides and/or federal agents who had cell-phones, blackberries, a satellite XM radio broadcast and/or sling-box TV hookup for 31 minutes while Warren was questioning Obama or he was not.

Either the Arizona senator had aides and/or federal agents with cell-phones, blackberries and laptops moving in or out of his church “isolation” room while Obama was being questioned by Warren or he did not.

Astonishingly, the Obama campaign is not publicly calling for interviews by reporters in the face of curious evidence, perhaps due to the Illinois senator’s rambling and somewhat evasive showing as he attempted to defend his left flank stance on such issues as the abortion of some 40 million dead babies since the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision referenced by Warren’s early questioning which will not sit well with Southern Bible belt states, let alone other Christian Republicans and Independents around the country.

Ironically, McCain’s campaign manager Rick Davis chided Mitchell and NBC on Sunday and Monday while confirming some of their assertions via a letter which admitted that “The fact is that during Senator Obama’s segment at Saddleback last night (Saturday), Senator McCain was in a motorcade to the event and then held in a green room with no broadcast feed.”

McCain spokeswoman Nicolle Wallace said on Sunday night that McCain had not heard the broadcast of the event while in his motorcade and heard none of the questions, adding “The insinuation from the Obama campaign that John McCain, a former prisoner of war, cheated is outrageous.”

The point is, no American really knows for sure whether McCain received an important advantage in front of a key constituency because the Obama campaign, Sanchez and Mitchell have failed to fully chase down the story by questioning the taxpayer-funded Secret Service detail and others about what McCain and his staff were doing while he was in the limo and then at the church “cone of silence” room, and whether aides consulted with McCain, assisted by cell-phones, blackberry iPhones, laptops, etc. before facing Warren’s identical questions at 9 pm EST.
